Refine the style of the dining room
One of the anchors of a working dining room is its design.
Always consider the overall design of your dining room.
Do you have a specific color or theme in mind? Will it be set up in a formal dining room or a casual breakfast nook? Like a puzzle, it should be the perfect piece of furniture for your needs and your aesthetic.
Let’s take a look at some popular dining table styles:
Industrial style dining table – If you like the combination of wood and metal, the industrial theme is for you.
Industrial-style dining tables are usually made with metal bases and wooden tops for a look that is both modern and rustic.
You will see the wood grain, reclaimed wood, and natural features that accentuate the organic look.
Scandinavian/Danish Style Dining Table – This style of dining table is practical and functional.
Incorporating design elements from Scandi Design in a simple, minimalist, and bright style, Scandi dining tables are usually in light oak or white and feature clean lines.
MODERN DINING TABLE – Get a contemporary look with a modern dining table to enhance your dining room.
Featuring clean lines and smooth edges, these tables showcase the best possible natural materials, like solid oak.
Modern dining tables also emphasize durability and timelessness in materials and design.
Choose a dining table shape.
Once you’ve decided on the style of your room, another step in choosing a dining table is knowing how to use it.
Outside of meal times, is the entire dining room reserved for formal dining, or is it a large open space near the kitchen? The location and size of the room are important when choosing a good table for your home.
Round – Round dining tables are perfect for small spaces.
The rounded curves make it more compact and look great in any type of interior style.
It also makes gatherings more intimate as everyone can easily talk to each other.
However, a circular dining table is not ideal for large gatherings, as its shape may seem distant, and it is difficult to reach for all the goodies.
Oval – Create an interesting look with an oval dining table.
Curved edges give the illusion of taking up less space and have a more traditional look than round ones.
This form is user-friendly and can accommodate a large number of people.
Square – A square within a square, these dining tables look great in a square room that establishes symmetry.
It can usually accommodate up to 4 people, but the expandable version can accommodate more guests.
It also creates a sense of intimacy as everyone at the table can have a close conversation.
For larger groups, try placing two square tables next to each other to create a larger seating arrangement for your guests on your special occasion.
Rectangular – These dining tables are the most popular because most dining rooms are rectangular.
Perfect for large families and guests, perfect for those who love hospitality.
Its straight shape makes it easy to have extra sheets for more people and to easily move around the table.
When possible, leave enough room for placement on both sides of the table.
To ensure availability, the rectangular table must be between 91 cm and 107 cm wide.
Always consider that adding a rectangular dining table and chairs can increase the space.
To save space, use benches instead of dining chairs on one side of the table so they can be easily stored underneath.
Standard dimensions of a dining table
Choosing a dining table isn’t just about size and shape. In the end, dimensions matter.
This will determine how the dining area and the dining table will be used.
It is also important in the overall design and circulation of space.
How big will the area be? Need a dining table that seats eight people? Size of a dining table that seats six people? How many people do you want to seat? Do you plan to entertain yourself often?
Keep in mind that to eat comfortably, people need to be about 24 inches apart and have enough table surfaces to put food and fancy dinnerware collections on.
Ideally, you should have a table surface of 91 cm to accommodate your meals and cutlery.
Pull the chair out to create enough space to sit comfortably without feeling stuffy.
Leave at least 107 cm between the edge of the table and the wall.
Always consider the room as a whole, especially other furniture such as sideboards and dining chairs.
If the sideboard is against the wall, measure a distance of 92 cm from the cabinet.
An extendable table is essential for a growing family or if you just want to entertain.
Be sure to measure the size when the table is extended to fit your dining area.
Choose a high dining table.
There are many designs and shapes of dining tables, but the standard dining table is about the same height.
The height of your dining table is important because you need to be able to sit comfortably and cross your legs.
If the table is too high, it will be difficult to eat! A good rule of thumb is to have at least 31 cm between the table top and the chair.
Standard: Standard height tables measure approximately 73cm to 78cm.
This table is ideal for chairs with a seat height of 44 to 48 cm.
The standard height works well for families and guests of varying ages and abilities.
Counter: The counter height table is approximately 86cm to 91cm high and fits chairs with a seat height of 61cm to 66cm.
Creating a more open look, this height works well in tight spaces.
Dining table materials and finishes that match your style
You’ve chosen a style and determined the dimensions and sizes you need.
For the fun part, I’ll show you the many materials used for dining tables that will show off your style and give you the dining space you’ve been hoping for.
Solid Wood Dining Table – A classic choice, solid wood is timeless and sturdy.
Solid wood, which often creates a warm atmosphere, can be made in different styles and grain patterns.
Solid oak furniture is built to last. We have selected items that match many interior styles and have been loved for many years.
To maintain the upholstery of your solid wood dining table and prevent water spots, always check with the manufacturer or wipe with a vinegar and oil mixture and a clean, soft cloth.
Glass Dining Table – much easier to maintain, glass cleaning is as easy as pie, creating a stylish open concept home.
Glass, which gives the room an illusion of space and light, goes well with modern elements such as stainless steel and brass.
Stone Dining Table – To add luxury and style to your space, stone such as granite or marble is a natural and classic option for your dining table.
It is durable and can withstand many uses, both indoors and outdoors.
There may be scratches due to aging, but I think there are people who think it gives rise to individuality.
Stone table tops are very heavy and can work in tight spaces.
Concrete Dining Table – A very durable surface material, the concrete dining table is easy to clean and offers a modern yet rustic look.
Concrete dining tables often have a rough look, so if you’re looking for something super sophisticated, concrete adds texture to the look and feel.
Veneer Dining Table – The durable and less porous surface of the dining table, the veneer dining table has a solid wood cover and is glued to particle or fiberboard.
This type of material is very durable, and its surface responds well to spills and damage.
In addition, since thin log sheets are used, they are environmentally friendly.
